Remembering Our Babies The Official Site of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day October 15th

Become a State Press Leader for the year 2004

Please read all of this carefully before applying for a position.

Please read all of the FAQ's about becoming a State Press Leader below before e-mailing with questions. Most are already answered below.

What is a State Leader?

A State Leader is the person who is going handle getting the permanent State Resolution signed for October 15th.

What does this entail?

Writing letters, sending emails, and making phone calls to the Senator and/or House of Representatives of your state requesting a Permanent Resolution be signed proclaiming October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Will this take up a lot of my time?

No, it shouldn't take up too much time. The initial sending of letters, faxes, etc. should take you no more than an hour. The cover letter, request form, and suggested resolution wording are provided for you. You can receive these through e-mail attachments, or on a web page where you can copy and paste them into your own word document, or equivalent document program.

You will also want to try to set up an appt. with your representative and go in a talk with him or her about what you are trying to accomplish. Remember, these are elected officials and they want your vote next term.

How will I remain in contact with other State Leaders?

You will be subscribed to a Yahoo e-mail group where everyone can remain in contact and be updated on each state. This group will also be for asking questions, lending advice, etc.

Who will I send updates to?

You will send you updates to your Regional Manager, and to the Remembrance Day e-mail group. There are two regional managers.

What is a Press Leader?

This is someone who will be in charge of e-mailing media in your state. Television Studios, Writing Newspaper articles for submission, and Radio Contacts. This person could be likely to be interviewed by news media.

What does a Press Leader's Job entail?

Sending Press Releases to major studios in your state at the appropriate time. Be willing to speak about October 15th and what it means. Not being afraid of the spotlight or being interviewed by reporters.

Who will a press leader report to?

Lisa Brown will be overseeing the press. She has been interviewed on several news stations in Florida and has also been the focus of several news articles about October 15th and Pregnancy Loss.

Can a State Leader do both?

Absolutely! It would be easier that way, although it is not necessary. If there is a State Leader and a Press Leader these two will need to remain in close contact and work together. This is a perfect example of Robyn Bear and Lisa Brown. Robyn likes to work behind the scenes, while Lisa likes to be in the public spotlight. Works great!

What will you expect of me?

We expect you to do your best. We expect you to ask questions. Not all Governor's always cooperate, and we expect you to let us know when this occurs. Never hesitate to ask for help. We expect to be able to contact you within a reasonable amount of time. We know no one can be online 24 hours a day, but we would like for you to check your e-mail messages at least on a daily basis. If you will be unreachable for an extended period of time, let the group and your Regional Manager know.

There are always occasions when someone can't continue to be a state or press leader. When this happens, please let us know ASAP. If possible, please try to help with a replacement. If this isn't possible, please send an update as to what has been done to your Regional Manager, so she can find a replacement for you.

How do I sign up to be a State Leader or Press Leader?

First, check the status of your state below to see if there is a position open. If there is, go to the web page below and submit the form with the appropriate information. I do ask that you give your address, phone number, and e-mail addresses. This private information will be seen only by Robyn Bear, and will not be given out for any reason. If someone needs to reach you and can't through e-mail, they can come to me and I will call you.

Don't forget to see if your state already has a leader. Please also remember that there may have been a time lapse and this page may not be updated. I will update daily.
